Issues of Russian-Japanese cooperation were discussed in the Voronezh region

Governor of the Voronezh region Alexander Gusev took part in the 10th meeting of the Sub-Commission on Trade and Investment of the Russian-Japanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Issues and in the 7th meeting of the Sub-Commission on Interregional Cooperation of the Russian-Japanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Issues, which took place in Voronezh on November 21.

Both meetings were chaired by Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Sergey Gorkov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan (for economic issues) Kazuyuki Yamazaki. The Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities of the Russian Federation, Andrei Chibis, also took part in the meetings.

During the meetings, the parties discussed the current state of Russian-Japanese trade and economic cooperation, approaches in the field of foreign economic policy, cooperation in banking and financial spheres, agriculture, in the field of tourism and transport development. One of the main issues discussed at the meetings was the creation and development of a modern comfortable urban environment.

Currently, in the Voronezh region, together with the Japanese side, several projects are being implemented to improve the urban environment of the regional center, namely, a pilot project related to intelligent traffic control, the so-called “smart traffic lights”, the technology of modernizing utility collectors without disabling services and building new urban transport systems, - light metro. The effectiveness of these three projects was particularly noted by the Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities of the Russian Federation, Andrei Chibis, pointing out that with the successful implementation of these projects in Voronezh, they can be replicated on the territory of Russian millionaire cities.

In addition, the issues of regional cooperation between Russia and Japan in various spheres of life, from the machine tool industry to document circulation, were discussed at the 7th meeting of the Sub-Commission on Interregional Cooperation of the Russian-Japanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Issues. A separate block was devoted to the current topic of "green" technologies and waste management. The Japanese side presented technologies for waste processing and further use of the resulting product. Prospects for Russian-Japanese cooperation in this area were also considered.

During the working meeting, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Sergei Gorkov noted that recently there has been an increase in Russian-Japanese trade relations. Thus, the trade turnover between the countries for the first 9 months of 2018 approached 16 billion dollars.

At the end of the meetings, the parties solemnly signed the protocol of the 7th meeting of the Sub-Commission on Interregional Cooperation of the Russian-Japanese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Issues.
